Wood Technology is a hands on, practical subject offered at Junior cycle. This subject also enables participants to get a head start in their study of Construction Studies in Leaving Certificate.
In transition year students also get the chance to test out their own carpentry skill when they participate in a module in the Wood Technology classroom.
In first and second year, Wood Technology students get an opportunity to design and create projects which are tailored to their own abilities. The projects are fun and the classes are full of practical experiences which many students can relate to in their own lives such as identifying trees and leaves, understanding the story of how a tree can go from the forest to a dining table and how to safely use the many different hand tools and machines!
In third year, students will use what they have learned in first and second year to design and create their own completely individual project which is based on a brief which is released and corrected by the state examinations commission. This practical coursework is worth 70% of their final grade. The other 30% will come from a written examination in June.
